Nelson Piquet has raced a rebuilt version of his 1983 F1 championship-winning Brabham BT52 in the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car was rebuilt by BMW engineers using modern F1 technology, and was driven by Piquet in the festival.
Alongside the heritage racer BMW was also showing off a number of its latest models, including the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé, which had its UK debut in the event. The V12-engined concept is really a one-off design study with 544bhp and 550 lb / ft of torque. Also on display is that the new M6 Gran Coupé. At £94, 180 the V8-powered coupé, which develops 552bhp and could get from 0-62mph in 4. 2sec, is placed to get the new flagship for BMW's M brand.
Other M models including the updated M5 saloon, M6 Convertible and M135i also feature upon the stand. Back upon the hill, and BMW's 464bhp M1 Procar was showing off on the crowds alongside the V12 LMR, the 572bhp 12-cylinder racer which won Le Mans in 1999. It was eventually driven in the hill by former F1 driver Marc Surer and UK racer Steve Soper. BMW's Mini brand is present in the festival, using its own stand celebrating the 'Best of British'.
