Audi S4 review
#EANF#[EXTRACT]
#EANF#EXTRACTThe Audi S4 is just one of those curious cars that appears to possess lost its place inside the world order. Not long following the turn from the century its role was clear : it was eventually Audi’s answer towards the likes from the BMW M3 and AMG versions from the Mercedes C-class, and also to that end it enjoyed the memorable services of the mighty V8 motor beneath the bonnet. AndrewFrankelSenior contributing writerAudi's S4 features a supercharged 3. 0-litre V6 that produces 328bhp and 324lb ftProblem was the car wasn’t any good, and Audi knew that if this were to become taken seriously like a manufacturer of supercar-slaying compact family cars it might do not need to just a special approach but a special badge. Up stepped its Quattro GmbH tuning division using its RS branding and also the rest, including the rather more cheerful tale from the RS4, is really a different story. Audi could afford just killed the S4, in fact, but that will not have appealed to its sense of order and the undeniable fact that S versions were either planned or already existed for each other mainstream model in its line-up. So rather than being beefed up even further, it was eventually put on the diet. The V8 became a V6 and also the car remarketed like a head and heart type of machine, one still worth getting on the Sunday morning but that was also sensible to endure day to day both when it comes to general civility and running costs. And that is where we discover the S4 today, costing upwards of £39k in four-door form or over £40k being an much more attractive, more practical and, frankly, more desirable estate. Each Audi S4 may also be had in ‘Black Edition’ specification, offering an entire raft of chintzy design details inside and out majoring on the highly polished black theme, but with some useful additional hardware and software, too, including automatic headlights and wipers, a digital radio, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, 19in rims, a parking camera and also a multi-function steering wheel. For the additional £1250, that sounds like conspicuous value.
