Few cars possess a forebear as fresh inside the memory like the Audi S1’s. The A1 quattro was introduced like a limited run in 2012 having a 252bhp version of a similar 2. 0 engine. Even then, once they’d got a good way, the brand had to beat significant packaging issues – and insisted on testing the bottom having a limited run of vastly expensive prototypes before finally rubber-stamping the production version tested here. But when something is valued at doing, it’s worth doing right. What we’re playing is among the many quickest, priciest superminis ever produced – so we rather such as the reported history from the Audi S1’s rocky road to production.
